GENRES , ADVANTAGES / DISADVANTAGES AND PLATFORMS OF SINGLE CAMERA TECHNIQUES

MULTI-CAMERA programs are usually based in the studio and are often recoreded,edited and broadcast live, so they include genres like live television news , chat shows like Jeremy  Kyle , studio panel show comedies e.g 8 out of 10 cats , some live performance music videos and magazine programs like Saturday Kitchen

SINGLE CAMERA GENRES 

Due to the cheapness, time needed and creativity and flexibility available in filming and editing, single camera is often used in the following genres :

Feature Films e.g Avengers Endgame

Single/series/serial dramas e.g Prison Break, Game of Thrones 

Soap operas eg. Eastenders

Television comedy ( location based ) e.g  Sex Education

Narrative Music Video

Television adverts 

Corporate videos

Youtube vloggers  and influencers

ADVANTAGES  OF SINGLE CAMERA PRODUCTIONS

Cost benefits in using less equipment and staff

Simpler set up without needing to ensure other cameras aren’t in shot

Wider range of shot types available to allow for wider range of creativity and ways to affect the audience.

Multiple takes allow for more control and careful staging and framing of shots but these need to be carefully matched during editing process.

DISADVANTAGES OF SINGLE CAMERA PRODUCTIONS

More time consuming filming as only one angle can be filmed at a time so multiple takes will be planned , set up and shot out of sequence to allow a variety of camera angles in final edit

Shooting scenes multiple times and  out of sequence over an extended time can cause continuity issues e.g  lighting , weather , props , costume, actor availability 

 A wider range of shot types and multiple takes means more complex requirements in editing in terms of matching shots. eyeline matches , consistent mise-en-scne ( props,costume and setting) .

Find an example of at least four  different  shot sizes from the list above , one angled shot , and two other shot types and  explain the effect on the audience and the reason it may have been shot that way.

You can use a range of different examples from film , tv, music videos or youtubers.

Make sure you include analysis of a master shot and an establishing shot
